Ensuring Worker and Public Health and Safety

In 2016 we provided 3618 hours of health and safety training and hosted 64 training sessions. We hosted 565 delegates and 210 contracting firms at the 2016 safety days event. We hosted 600 students for electrical safety programs and conducted 281 formal staff safety evaluations. employees at our wellness day event. We responded to 9295 utility locate requests - and we responded within 5 business days, 85% of the time. We conducted 284 sewer safety inspections.

Did you know that in 2016 we responded to nearly ten thousand requests to locate underground utility services and ensure public safety? We also hosted 64 health and safety training sessions, providing over four thousand hours of employee training, making sure everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.

Saving Water, Energy and Money

5380 customers use MyUtilities to better understand their utility use. Over 2500 customers received one-on-one conservation advice from an expert. We attended 38 community events, providing tools and advice to save water and energy. At these events, we delivered 1720 water and energy conservation kits, 864 children's educational activity books, 830 informational fridge magnets, 75000 saveONenergy coupons (combined with other distribution methods), 370 reusable water bottles, 250 water-saving shower timers, 1150 plant seed packets and 3500 dish squeegies.

Conservation extends the life of infrastructure, allows for population growth, and reduces the cost of treating and pumping water and sewage. Our conservation programs empower families and businesses to save money, reduce the environmental impact of utility services, and protect their homes from flooding. In 2016, we replaced 1622 metres of water main, replaced 8819 water meters, inspected 3458 fire hydrants, replaced 98 water valves, replaced or repaired 154 water services, repaired 57 water mains replaced or repaired 105 fire hydrants, flow rated 885 fire hydrants and pumped 23 billion litres quality water.

We’re proud of the unique multi-utility model in Kingston. It allows for the efficient coordination of projects that combine water, sewer, gas, electricity, streetlights and traffic signals, and road works. This leads to timely and cost-effective completion of projects, with less disruption to you.
