Kingston West Water Treatment Plant

Utilities Kingston along with its engineering team, lead by J.L. Richards & Associates Limited, are preparing for implementation of key upgrades to the Point Pleasant Water Treatment Plant (known as the Kingston West Water Treatment Plant), located on Sunny Acres Road.

Engineers are exploring strategies to nearly double the plant's capacity by 2012, a requirement identified in the 2007 Water Master Plan for the City of Kingston's Urban Area as necessary for provision of safe reliable water to the residents, particularly in the western service area.

Utilities Kingston announced a Environmental Assessment (EA) in January of 2008 in order to identify capacity requirements, assess alternative optimization and expansion strategies and develop a recommended conceptual design. The first public information session of the EA process is scheduled for January 30.

Also announced in January was the creation of a 10-member Public Liaison Committee to help represent residents and businesses in the area surrounding the plant during the course of the EA study.
