OPEN HOUSE ON JUNE 26 REVIEWS
TWO POLLUTION CONTROL PROJECTS

Utilities Kingston continues to "work hard" toward implementing recommendations of the municipality's recently updated Pollution Control Plan. In addition to the various construction projects that replace the city's aging infrastructure, Utility officials say that two key projects are essential for continued improvement to the water quality of the City's waterfront and harbour.

WHERE/WHEN

What: Open house for the Harbourfront Trunk Sewer Overflow Control Project and the Collingwood CSO Control & Water Treatment Plant Waste Management Project

When: Wednesday, June 26, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Memorial Hall in City Hall

Both the Harbourfront Trunk Sewer Overflow Control Project and the Collingwood CSO Control & Water Treatment Plant Waste Management Project as detailed in the City's Pollution Control Plan are priority projects that will help ensure good environmental management and compliance with Ministry of Environment and Energy policies for combined sewer overflows, say officials.

"We are preparing a plan for the management of waste waters from the Kingston Main Water Treatment Plant in conjunction with combined sewer overflow controls at Collingwood Street", says Allen Lucas, a Utilities Kingston engineer. "One option to reduce these sewer overflows includes the construction of new trunk sewers and holding tanks", he added.

According to Lucas the study area for the Kingston Harbourfront Trunk Sewer Overflow Control Project is from Brock Street near King Street, extending to Cataraqui Street along the unpaved Wellington Street extension. The study area for the combined sewer overflow control and backwash wastewater treatment project is in the immediate area around the City's main water filtration plant on King Street West, near Collingwood Street.

Utilities Kingston invites interested citizens to attend an open house to find out more about these important infrastructure projects Wednesday, June 26, at City Hall from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. or from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
