WATER RESTRICTION ADVISORY: RESIDENTS MUST REDUCE WATER USE OVER THE NEXT 48 HOURS
The City of Kingston issued a water restriction advisory this afternoon after utility workers reported a "technical problem" with the water distribution system in Kingston West.
Accordingly, residents city-wide are being asked to not use water, other than for household necessities, for next 48 hours. Bylaw officers enforcing the water restrictions will be stepping up their enforcement in an attempt to drive home the need to conserve water say utility officials.
On July 3rd the City enacted its water restriction bylaw because of concerns about water supply, especially in the western part of the city. But with today's discovery of a water distribution problem, the situation becomes more concerning.
"We need people to conserve water, especially in the western part of the City over the next 48 hours. Our staff will fix the technical problem in the next day or so, but to be safe, we need people to adhere to the bylaw", says Kevin Riley of Utilities Kingston. "The hot dry weather has put our water system under pressure. Couple that with today's technical problems and we have a recipe for concern", he added.
