Utilities Kingston has announced that natural gas rates have changed effective May 1, 2003.
The rate for the transportation and storage component decreased from $0.0726 to $0.0676 per cubic metre. This decrease reflects the current costs to transport natural gas from the source in Alberta and store gas for future use at Union Gas' storage facility near Dawn Ontario.
The rate for the commodity component increased from $0.2575 to $0.2875 per cubic metre. This increase is due to the higher prices of natural gas in recent months and anticipated future increases. The rate increase directly reflects Utilities Kingston's increased cost of purchasing natural gas supplies from producers. As a regulated utility Utilities Kingston does not to profit from the sale of the natural gas commodity.
These changes represent an annual increase of $77.52 for a typical home consuming 3100 cubic metres of gas per year.
