UTILITIES KINGSTON CAUTIONS ABOUT NATURAL GAS MARKETER
Utilities Kingston reports hearing from some of its customers recently that natural gas re-sellers are canvassing the city with direct sales people marketing natural gas contracts. Utilities Kingston would like to remind its customers that these direct sales people do not represent Utilities Kingston.
All Utilities Kingston employees carry identification and customers are encouraged to ask to see it.
Further, you should not show your utility bill or share account information unless you decide to sign with a retailer. Other good advice, say Utilities Kingston officials, is to compare the offer you receive to only the 'commodity' portion of your bill, not the total bill.
Officials note that regardless of the price of the 'commodity portion' of the bill everyone still pays the other charges on the bill in addition to the commodity cost.
If you choose to do nothing, you will continue to receive natural gas from Utilities Kingston.
Question to Ask Direct Sales Retailers about Natural Gas Contracts:
Q: Do you have a licence from the Ontario Energy Board?
Q: What is the length of the contract and is there a penalty for canceling it? Can the retailer cancel the contract?
Q: When does service begin?
Q: Who gets any possible rebates? What is the price per cubic metre (natural gas)?
Q: Are there additional charges and, if so, what are they?
Q: Do you offer any environmentally-friendly energy?
Q: What if I move? Can I terminate early or transfer the contract?
