The Province has declared a Provincial State of Emergency and is asking people to stay home this evening and stay home from work tomorrow unless your work is an essential service.
As a precautionary measure the city has issued a Boil Water Advisory for the former Kingston Township. Those residents that to have water and the ability to heat it are advised to boil their water before consumption.
The water pressure in Kingston West is low and some residents will have not water. At this point we expect that for the next 24 hours. Water restrictions are needed as a fire protection precaution.
Arrangements are being made for the Military to transport drinking water to Joyceville and Glenburnie fire stations for public use in the rural area.
The electrical system is fragile therefore even those with power may experience blackouts. You are asked to conserve energy (i.e. not use air conditioners; major electrical appliances). Do not flush toilets and only use water for drinking purposes.
The City of Kingston Municipal Administrative buildings will be closed tomorrow. In addition, recreation programs will not be operating. The Ontario Works office will be closed.
A Citizen Inquiry Centre is established and the number is 384-1954. Residents may call this number to obtain information related to the emergency situation. 911 should only be used for emergency response.
Although there are reports of power coming on the system is not stable and it is critical that residents abide by the restrictions.
