CITY MAKES CHANGES TO WATER-USE RESTRICTIONS
The unprecedented power outage and the resulting conservation restrictions has cast light on the need to update and clarify the city's water
conservation bylaw say city and utility officials. Effective Wednesday August 27, 2003, the following water bylaw changes take effect:
-
The water conservation bylaw applies to lawn and garden use only
-
Lawn and garden watering is restricted to odd and even calendar days
-
Sprinklers can be used to water lawns and gardens on your designated day - even addresses - even calendar days - odd addresses-odd calendar days.
Hours for sprinkler watering are restricted to 12:00 midnight until 10:00 a.m. and/or from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight on your designated day
-
Watering lawns and gardens with a hand held hose or a can is permitted anytime on your designated day.
-
No sprinklers can be used from 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. on any day of the week.
Officials note that the changes to the water restriction bylaw provide for improved flexibility for when citizens can water their lawns and
gardens. The changes will also help to offset the times when water usage spikes thus assuring safe water levels in the system.
City officials say that the power outage was a wake up call about our natural resource dependency. "We cannot maintain our existing water usage
patterns so we will be exploring additional conservation practices as we prepare for the 'NEW' normal this fall."
Meanwhile, the water use bylaw changes will assure that the focus on water conservation practices is maintained.
