NOISE BY-LAW EXEMPTION REQUEST;
PUBLIC OUTREACH IN BROCVILLE;
$15 MILLION PROJECTS COMPLETED

Utilities Kingston will seek an exemption from the city's noise by-law at the October 7 meeting of city council so that construction of a new water pipe and twin sanitary sewer mains across the Cataraqui River can proceed on a 24 hours basis.

Officials say that construction activities may include noise from the crane dredge, tug boats, generators for lighting and transport trucks coming and going from the site.

To date, preparatory work on the river's east has seen the construction of a temporary access road and a dock for off-loading silt and material being dredged from the river.

More news from Utilities Kingston:

  • Engineer reaches out to Brockville audience: UK engineer Allen Lucas travels east to Brockville on Wednesday to update delegates attending an Ontario Public Works Association meeting about the Cataraqui River crossing project. Of interest to the Brockville community is Kingston's insufficient storage capacity to handle sewage over-flows. When heavy rainfall happens, sewers over flow to the river because storage capacity has been exceeded say officials.
  • Public tours of $15 million water sewer treatment plants upgrade: The public can tour the 3 year, $15 million upgraded King Street water treatment plant and the Kingston West sewage treatment plant Wednesday October 15 from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. For three years, Utilities Kingston staff has worked on upgrading the 1950's - era water treatment plant while rebuilding the original portions and restoring the capacity of the 40 year old Kingston West sewage treatment plant. Mayor Turner will officially mark the completin of these projects with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 pm on the 15th at the King Street Water Treatment Plant. A shuttle bus will run between the facilities and City hall to provide transportation to all who wish to view these facilities.
