BOIL-WATER ADVISORY ISSUED
FOR NEARLY 300 EAST-END HOMES

As a precautionary measure the City, in consultation with KFL&A Public Health, has issued a Boil Water Advisory to residents living east of CFB Kingston who are on the municipal water supply.

The advisory comes after a water main break in the City's east end resulted in low pressure in the municipal water system.

"There is no established health risk with the water supply. This is only a precautionary measure due to the low pressure in the municipal water system of the affected area," says Dr. Ian Gemmill, Medical Officer of Health, KFL&A Public Health.

The residents affected are advised to boil their water before drinking and cooking. Water should boil for at least sixty seconds. Start timing once the water begins to boil. KFL&A Public Health also recommends the purchase of bottled water. The boil water advisory does not affect the quality of water for bathing.

The boil water advisory will be in place until at least noon on Monday, January 24. At which time the City and KFL&A Public Health will reevaluate the situation.

Water conservation efforts are necessary to ensure that water reserves are available for fire protection. Therefore, residents in the affected area are also being asked to continue to conserve water until the end of today, Friday, January 21. This will provide time for the water main to be repaired and the reserve to return to normal levels.

Once the water main break is repaired, mains will be flushed over the weekend. As a result, you may experience discoloured water or odor when you turn on the faucet. If this happens, it can usually be corrected by turning on all the facets in your home for approximately 10 minutes until the water runs clear.

Residents who have any question can contact Utilities Kingston at 546-1181.
