CITY, UTILITIES RELEASE 2006 CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM
Each year, the City and Utilities Kingston work together to coordinate their efforts of replacing underground utility
services in conjunction with replacing some of the aging road surfaces in the city.
As part of this year's program, many have already experienced detours around King and Brock streets as part of the
Market Square Revitalization and on Van Order Drive. The end result - new water and sewer services for the area, new
sidewalks and a new road surface, giving motorists a smoother ride.
The entire 2006 infrastructure program includes nearly nine kms of new and reconstructed road surface, over one km of
new and rebuilt sidewalks and eight new sets of traffic signals. The City will also complete work on the Centennial
Drive extension and the Cataraqui Woods Drive extension and continue its work on the environmental assessments for the
extensions of Bayridge Drive and Wellington Street.
Utilities Kingston has a number of projects on the go this year including a new water well system in the Cana
Subdivision, and upgrades at the sewage lift stations in the North End, in Westbrook and on River Street. Environmental
assessments have started for upgrades at the sewage lift stations on Bath Road and Crerar Blvd. And construction will
begin early this summer to upgrade the Ravensview Water Pollution Control Plant to introduce secondary treatment and
increase capacity for growth in the City.
Officials from Utilities Kingston are encouraging homeowners to look for the complete list of 2006 construction projects
in today's (May 2) edition of the Kingston This Week newspaper or on the City Web site at www.cityofkingston.ca/projects2006.
Copies will also available in the reception areas of City Hall, the 1211 John Counter Blvd. offices and the 1425 Midland
Avenue municipal offices later today.
If construction work is being done on your street and you are experiencing problems with low water pressure or thinking
of installing natural gas, Utilities Kingston needs to hear from you so it can be fixed right, the first time. Duplicate
construction work wastes community dollars and decreases the life of new road surfaces.
