FREE: 1,000 SEASONAL LIGHT STRINGS
Utilities Kingston Bill-Payers Can Trade Old
Christmas Lights For Energy-Efficient LEDs
In the first promotion of its kind in the City, Kingston Electricity Distribution Limited (KEDL) is asking customers to trade their energy-hogging traditional
incandescent seasonal lights for a brand new energy-efficient set of LED seasonal lights.
This Saturday, Nov. 18, the first 1,000 KEDL customers who bring a recent Utilities Kingston electric bill and one set of traditional incandescent lights to the
Canadian Tire Kingston Centre at 59 Bath Rd. will receive one free 70-light string of LED indoor/outdoor lights, worth $12.
KEDL president and CEO Jim Keech said the amount of electricity consumed by just one seven-watt incandescent bulb could power 140 LED bulbs -enough to light two
24-foot (7.3 metre) strings.
"This 1,000 light string exchange will take approximately 18,500 kilowatts of power off the grid and save the average household $2.18 per light sting this
holiday season," says Keech. "They use up to 90 per cent less energy than traditional incandescent holiday lights."
While LED lights may cost more than old fashioned incandescent lights, they can pay for themselves with energy savings in two seasons or less. In addition, LED
lights are more durable than incandescent bulbs: shatterproof, shock resistant and lasting up to 10 times longer. Because they produce very little heat, LED
seasonal lights also reduce the risk of fire.
The exchange takes place in the Canadian Tire parking lot between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. or while quantities last. KIMCO Kingston has provided a large trash
container to remove the unwanted traditional lights. Donations to the Food Bank are also being accepted.
Kingston Electricity Distribution Limited (KEDL) is the corporation that owns the electric distribution facilities managed by Utilities Kingston. KEDL is a
stand alone corporation with an independent board of directors, responsible for ensuring the safe efficient delivery of electricity to its customers.
