UTILITIES KINGSTON IS OFFERING RAIN BARRELS TO CUSTOMERS

RAIN BARRELS WILL BE HOME-DELIVERED — WHILE SUPPLIES LAST

Utilities Kingston is once again offering rain barrels for sale to its water customers while quantities last.

This year, residents must order the rain barrels by calling 613-546-0000 and the barrel will be delivered directly to their homes (no appointment is required. Residents do not need to be home to receive their rain barrels). Orders are limited to one barrel per household while supplies last and the $32 charge will be automatically added to a resident's utility bill upon delivery.

Last year's response to the rain barrel program was overwhelming and prompted Utilities Kingston to order an additional 300 rain barrels (for a total of 600). This year they have ordered 1000 rain barrels in anticipation of demand.

Rain barrel features:

  • Easy to install - cut the existing downspout above the top of the rain barrel, re-install the elbow so that it sits just above the centre of the screen. Place the overflow hose on the upper connection and secure the clamp. Direct the overflow hose away from the foundation.
  • The top is made of a child proof screen for intercepting debris and mosquitoes.
  • It has a barrel tap installed near the bottom of the drum to allow a connection of a garden hose.
  • The overflow is installed near the top of the drum with a 3.6 metre (12 foot) piece of flexible hose to allow excess water to run away from foundation of the building.
  • In the winter simply turn the barrel over so water does not accumulate and freeze.
