Utilities Kingston, along with the engineering team lead by J.L. Richards & Associates Limited, is working on a Schedule B Class Environmental Assessment in anticipation of building a water storage reservoir and pumping station to be located on the north leg of O'Connor Drive (off Gardiner's Road). The quality of the soil and rock beneath the surface are essential to the success of the reservoir and pumping station, and a geotechnical investigation of the subsurface will be completed with the assistance of Kingston's Inspec-Sol Inc. This initial geotechnical investigation will incorporate a Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) - this method uses several sensors across the site to monitor vibrations generated by an idling excavator. The field work for this is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. The information gathered through the MASW will help determine the site's seismic classification in accordance with the Ontario Building Code for design of the structures. The second phase of the geotechnical investigations will look at conventional soil and rock drilling on the site. This work is scheduled for next week. - 30 - WATER/SEWER RATES |
