RAVENSVIEW TESTING MAY AFFECT WATER IN KINGSTON EAST
Starting Wednesday, Utilities Kingston will be filling individually each of the 11 cells of the Biological Aerated Filter at the Ravensview Environmental Centre.
This testing is necessary using clean water to ensure that all connections are watertight and if not, can be readily sealed. Because of the volume of water
required for this set of tests, some area households in the east water service area may notice some intermittent, temporary discolouration in their water and/or
loss of water pressure, but there will be no disruption in service.
The testing is expected to take up to two weeks to complete.
The discolouration of the water that may occur in some households is caused by iron (red water) deposits becoming stirred up in the system. This discolouration
is temporary and poses no health risk. Residents are instructed to simply run their cold water until it clears and to check that the water is clear before doing
laundry or other projects that may be affected by discoloured water. Residents may also prefer to keep a pitcher of clear water in the refrigerator for drinking.
The $115 million Ravensview upgrade, located on the St. Lawrence River off Highway 2, is on schedule for completion in September 2009 and will increase the
capacity of the sewage treatment facility by 30 per cent and significantly improve the quality of water discharged to Lake Ontario.
