HYDRANT INSPECTIONS MAY CAUSE WATER DISCOLOURATION
Utilities Kingston inspections of fire hydrants are continuing throughout the city from now until September. Because the inspections require the use of large
quantities of water, residences around fire hydrants that are being inspected may notice some discolouration in their water. The water remains safe to drink.
This will dissipate in a short period after the flowing of the hydrants is complete in the immediate area. Residents can run their cold water for 5 minutes to
help to reduce any coloured water that may have appeared. They may also prefer to keep a pitcher of clear water in the refrigerator for drinking.
Utilities Kingston also suggests that residents check that their water is clear before doing laundry or other projects that may be affected by discoloured water.
The inspections, which include Utilities Kingston's crews flowing water from many fire hydrants, will start downtown and in the area of Queens University and
will continue to radiate until the whole city has been covered. The majority of the work will take place during normal business hours.
