The renowned scientist and broadcaster is in Kingston as the keynote speaker at the upcoming World Wind Energy Conference (WWEC). More than 500 renewable energy developers and advocates from around the world are meeting here from June 23-26 at the WWEC. This kick-off event celebrates inspiring local and global examples of green power in action. The event will be followed by a CD release party, featuring music composed in tribute to the "Project Light" campaign of Brazilian green engineer Fabio Rosa. His foundation provides low-cost solar-electric systems to poor farmers, fishing families, and remote Amazon villages. The renewable energy installation at Renewable Energy of Plum Hollow's store combines a solar photovoltaic system that sells power to the grid under Ontario's Standard Offer Program and a net-metered wind turbine that can offset electricity consumption, provide battery backup power to the business, or export power to the grid. The event will be hosted by staff of the Renewable Energy of Plum Hollow store, which has been retailing high efficiency residential woodstoves, solar, and wind technologies since 1993. On hand will be WWEC delegates, prominent dignitaries, officials from Utilities Kingston, and representatives of SWITCH, Kingston's sustainable energy association. In the past year and a half, KEDL has helped seven of its customers connect renewable energy generation to its grid. Those interested in supplying locally produced renewable energy to the KEDL grid can find out more by visiting: www.utilitieskingston.com/generation/. Where: Renewable Energy of Plum Hollow store, 271 Dalton Ave. When: Monday, June 23, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. - 30 - WATER/SEWER RATES |
