Cataraqui River Crossing: Implementation

Project implementation will commence upon receipt of federal environmental assessment (EA) approval (expected May 2003.) Four contracts will be awarded over the next few months, as follows:

Reconstruction of Duty Drive and intersection improvements and County Road 2: This work is required to facilitate construction traffic through CFB Kingston and enable access to the eastern
terminus of the proposed water and sewer crossing. Construction is currently scheduled to commence June 2003, and is expected to take approximately three months to complete.

Construction of the temporary dock, dredging, and laying of the water & sewer pipes: This work will include environmental dredging of the trench, the laying of one watermain and two
sewer forcemains, and construction of all environmental protection measures such as surface water management facilities. Construction of the dock is currently scheduled to commence July 2003.

Construction of a temporary dewatering facility. A temporary storage and dewatering facility is to be constructed at the City's snow disposal site located immediately west of Division Street,
north of Highway 401. Construction of the facility is to occur at the same time as construction of the dock to enable its use as soon as dredging activities are ready to begin.

Upgrade of the River Street Pumping Station (P.S.). The existing station is to be upgraded with new equipment installed to enable compliance with current health and safety and building code
regulations, as well as improved handling of wastewater flows during peak events. Construction activities at the pumping station are currently scheduled to commence September 2003.
