Artificial Intelligence helps protect the security of local utility systems

Cybersecurity is becoming an increasingly important considerations for organizations around the world, and we wanted to share an update on how we’re ready for the potential of system attacks.

Utilities Kingston manages a communications network (computer systems and sensors) that is essential to monitor and control the water, natural gas, and electricity systems we manage, operate and maintain for our community. We have deployed an innovative artificial intelligence system to further protect the security of this communications network, for the safe, reliable operation of local utility infrastructure.

With attackers increasingly targeting communications networks around the world, Utilities Kingston is now working with Darktrace, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) company for cyber defence, to further improve security. The Darktrace AI monitors network activity and detects anomalies as they emerge. This ensures we can respond more quickly to potential system threats.

Now, instead of relying on an individual to identify threats, the Darktrace AI alerts us to potential threats in real-time. We’re proud of this innovative approach to help our team monitor and investigate events for the security of our systems.
