Water Outage Planned for Westbrook on August 25

Water Outage Planned for Westbrook on August 25

Approximately 500 homes and businesses in Westbrook will be impacted by a planned water outage from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., beginning on Thursday, August 25.

Utilities Kingston makes every effort to reduce disruption to its customers. The straightforward nature of the work allows for this outage to be conducted overnight.

The outage is needed to install a district water meter on a Woodbine Road water main that supplies the Westbrook area. This new technology is being investigated to help identify water leaks in the system, and help improve operating efficiency and water conservation.

Tips to help with a water outage:

  • When water is restored, you could experience discoloured tap water or air in the pipes. The water is still safe. In the case of discoloured water, you should run a cold water tap until it clears. This may take 5-25 minutes.
  • Pails of water can be used to flush toilets when you pour the water into the tank. Consider 'cottage rules' for flushing.
  • The City of Kingston emergency management plan suggests that each household has four litres of water, per person, per day at the ready for drinking and bathing.
