What to expect if we’re trimming trees in your neighborhood

What to expect if we’re trimming trees in your neighborhood

Trees contacting live wires can cause power outages and property damage, and creates a public safety risk. That’s why we encourage property owners to plant the right tree in the right place – and why we trim the trees in our electricity service area. Our website provides public safety information and explains what you can expect – including a map that shows if you can soon expect tree trimming in your neighbourhood.

What to expect

  • If your property will be directly impacted, you will receive an information card in your physical mailbox in advance of the work.
  • In order to safely trim trees, crews may need to access your backyard or laneway.
  • Power outages are sometimes needed. We will provide residences and businesses with advanced notice. You can view planned power outages at https://utilitieskingston.com/Outages
  • All vegetation marked with orange tape will be removed.
  • Crews will clean up debris resulting from this work.

A neighbourhood map is available on our tree trimming web page. It allows you to see if your neighbourhood is identified for tree trimming in a coming month. This page also has ‘before and after’ diagrams demonstrating how we will prune and remove vegetation.

Did you know for every publicly-owned tree removed, we fund replacement with two trees within the city?
