2015 Achievements

Our technicians build and upgrade traffic signal intersections, install street lights, and quickly respond to traffic signal problems and street light outages. We strive to make this infrastructure as reliable and efficient as possible.

Here are some of the highlights from this past year:

Streetlights and Traffic Signals Achievements 2015 — Replaced 14 end-of-life poles, installed 46 poles and lights, visually inspected 2189 poles (98 poles were prioritized for replacement), built or rebuilt 6 intersections, installed pedestrian countdown signals at 10 intersections, installed 78 UPS batteries at 16 intersections, installed driver feedback signs at 4 locations, installed 15 solar stop sign flashers.

Support for Cross-Functional Departments

A key benefit to our multi-utility model is that our skills and expertise are shared across departments, leading to more efficient completion of the work and a general increase in the company’s knowledge base.

In 2015, streetlight and traffic signals technicians also worked with our measurement and communications group to install and provide power for 13 supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) cabinets.

This equipment will in turn be used by our wastewater utility to improve the monitoring of combined sewer overflows to the environment; providing more information to the public and allowing Utilities Kingston to develop plans to further reduce the frequency and volume of bypasses.
